What are anti-wrinkle injections?
At the Eden Medical Clinic we use Botulinum toxin for anti-wrinkle injections. Botulinum toxin is a protein produced in laboratories that has been used in cosmetic and aesthetic contexts since the 1990’s in order to reduce visible lines and facial wrinkles.

How do anti-wrinkle injections work?
Anti-wrinkle injections work by blocking the nerve impulse to the muscles of your face that, over time, cause wrinkles and permanent lines to form. These muscles will gradually relax, giving your face a smoother look.

How does the treatment take place?
Before any treatment, you will have a full consultation with one of our skilled and qualified doctors. They will discuss your suitability for anti-wrinkle treatment and work out a personal treatment plan and goal for you.
The treatment takes about 15 minutes during which a local anaesthetic is applied to the injections sites on your face. Once you are ready, small quantities of the Botulinum toxin serum are injected.
Who are anti-wrinkle treatments suitable for?
Botulinum toxin is suitable for a most people. However, this treatment should be avoided by anyone with muscle problems; nerve damage; or who is pregnant or breastfeeding.
How long do anti-wrinkle treatments last?
The treatment should last for around 3-4 months. As the substances contained in the injections are broken down and absorbed by the body, additional treatments will be necessary to maintain your youthful look. A plan for regular follow-up treatments will be put together for you.

If you suffer from cold sores, this treatment may trigger an outbreak.
To avoid swelling and bruising:
- Do not take aspirin, ibuprofen, or advil for 2 days after treatment, OR for one week prior to treatment
- Ice the swollen area
- DO NOT rub or massage face for 4 hours after treatment – this will spread the injected material to other muscles in your face
- Avoid exercise, apart from walking for 24 hours after treatment.
