Submental fullness or, as it is more commonly known, a ‘double chin’ is a common cause of dissatisfaction for many people. This chin fat can be present due to many factors, including being overweight; genetic makeup, or ageing; and is notoriously difficult to get rid of.
Well, despair no more. If an excess of chin fat is making you feel down in the mouth, there is good news for you. Eden Medical Clinic will soon be offering Kybella treatments.
What is Kybella?
Kybella is an injectable treatment that is administered over several visits to your medical practitioner. This injectable material is manufactured from synthetic deoxycholic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the body and which helps in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fats. The material is injected into various areas beneath your chin, whereupon it targets and destroys fat cells rendering them unable to store or accumulate fat any longer; and over time, resulting in an improved profile and noticeable reduction in chin fat.
How many treatments will I need?
As every person is different, a treatment plan will be tailored specifically to each individual. Some people will require more treatments than others depending on factors such as, the amount of chin fat present in the first place.
Treatments, consisting of multiple injections below the chin, take place at monthly intervals. In clinical trials, many people showed visible results after 2 – 4 treatments.
Once you have achieved your desired look, further treatment should not be necessary as the fat-storing cells have been destroyed.
This treatment is for adults over the age of 18. You should inform your medical practitioner if you are planning to become pregnant; are currently pregnant, or are breast feeding, as it is not known whether Kybella can have an adverse effect on the unborn baby, or pass to a child through breast milk.
Also, let them know if you have had or plan to have surgery on your face, neck or chin; have had or have medical conditions in or near the neck area; have had or have trouble swallowing; have bleeding problems.
What are the side effects of Kybella?
Kybella treatments can cause some fairly serious side effects. These include:
*Please note that during clinical trials both the trouble swallowing and the nerve injuries resolved themselves over a period of time.
Common side effects:
Although this may sound frightening, Kybella has shown good results for dealing with moderate to severe chin fat.
The ultimate gift for the one you love!
