As we age, a common complaint that affects us all is the appearance of fine vertical lies above our lips. These lines are more commonly referred to as ‘smoker’s lines’, and this term will bring to mind, (in people of a certain generation!), Hilda Ogden in Coronation Street with her cigarette hanging out of a pursed mouth. However, many people who suffer from smoker’s lines may never have smoked a cigarette in their lives.
Are you causing smoker’s lines without even realising it?
Also known as ‘lipstick lines’, as they stand out more when lipstick bleeds into them, these wrinkles can appear for a number of reasons. Obviously, smoking is a major factor; but so are age; genetics, and repetitive lifestyle habits. Pursing your lips to drink with a straw; or through the top of a drink bottle can have a damaging effect on the skin around your lips. It is a bit of a kick in the teeth to realise that the way that you drink the water to hydrate and plump your skin, could be the very thing contributing to the lines in the first place.
You will be delighted to hear that there are ways to deal with these wrinkles. As prevention is always better than cure, you should start by making some lifestyle changes:
In order to ‘banish smoker’s lines’ that already exist, it is possible to use dermal fillers to fill the wrinkles, plump the skin and give a more youthful look.
The lip fillers used by Eden Medical are manufactured using Hyaluronic Acid, a substance that occurs naturally within the body. This ensures that the process is safe, as there is a very low likelihood of an adverse reaction, and all of the injected material will eventually breakdown in the body. This does mean that the treatment will need to be repeated over time, if you wish to maintain a certain look, as the effects are non-permanent. However, the results are immediately visible, allowing for a highly tailored and personalised treatment, which will mean that you can achieve the exact look that you desire.
The Hyaluronic Acid also attracts and binds water molecules, so it will help to hydrate your skin, resulting in a younger, fresher look.
How does the lip filler treatment take place?
15 – 20 minutes before the treatment takes place, a prescription anaesthetic cream is applied to the injection sites. The filler is injected at precise locations in your skin or lips and the skin is massaged to smooth out the material. Whilst the treatment is taking place you will be given a mirror to hold so that you can see the results, which are apparent immediately. The whole treatment should take around 30 minutes.
How long do lip fillers last?
Depending on the areas treated, and the metabolism rate of the patient, lip fillers can last from 6-12 months.
The ultimate gift for the one you love!
