“The weather outside is frightful, and the fire is so delightful…”, so go the words of the well-known song ‘Let it Snow!’ With these words in mind, we have put together a few tips on how to protect your skin this winter.
Everyone knows that the secret to healthy, glowing skin is a good skincare routine; and at no time is this more important than during the winter. Skincare is usually top of the list in the summer when we want to shed the layers and leave more of it on display. However, the winter months can play havoc with our complexions. This is, in part because of atmospheric conditions, but also because we tend to relax our efforts when it comes to taking care of this vitally important part of our body.
Don’t be harsh
Make sure that the products that you use on your skin are gentle. Put away the rough exfoliators and treat your skin with extra tender care.
Don’t throw out the sunscreen
Just because the long, hot, hazy days of summer may have disappeared, doesn’t mean that you should stop using sunscreen. Damaging UV rays are still about no matter the weather so always use sunscreen on exposed skin, all year round.
Delicate wash mode
When washing your skin, and in particular your hands and face, make sure that you use warm, rather than hot, water. Pat your skin dry afterwards instead of rubbing vigorously.
Replace the moisture
Make moisturising a ritual. Central heating in your house, or at work, will dry out the atmosphere, and as a consequence, your skin. Moisturiser will help to keep in moisture. You should take extra special care to moisturise your hands and face after washing to ensure that they remain hydrated.
The perfect pout
Always carry a lip balm with you wherever you go and make sure that you apply it regularly. Winter is the time of year for rough, chapped, cracked lips; so to ensure the perfect pout, make sure you treat them to adequate protection.
Make sure you are drinking enough fluids
If your body is lacking in fluids, one of the first casualties will be your skin. Maintain a good level of hydration, especially when spending a lot of time in centrally heated buildings so that you can hang on to a healthy glow.
…Alcohol doesn’t count
Make sure that you don’t overdo the alcohol. We may be heading into the party season and alcohol is a liquid, but it will also dehydrate you. This dehydration will result not only in hangovers but also terrible skin.
If, after following our skincare tips you still feel that you could do with a helping hand to maintain that healthy glow, then why not book yourself a treatment, such as Profhilo for instance, with one of our dedicated medical professionals.
