It seems that everyone is talking about mindfulness these days, and why not? Mindfulness can be good for your health. Along with meditation, it seems to be the number one go-to if you are looking to claim back some me-time and a way to de-stress.
“Mindfulness is an integrated mind-body based training that helps people to change the way they think and feel about their experiences…”
Mental Health Ireland
There are several documented examples of how mindfulness can benefit us on an everyday basis.
Mindfulness can help decrease stress and anxiety
Mindfulness techniques teach us that we should be aware of what is happening to us in the present moment and experience it without judgement. This seems to translate as ‘don’t sweat it’.
If you deal with a potentially stressful situation in a mindful manner, you will be able to cope with those feelings of stress better. This helps to stop avoidance techniques and will enable you to feel more confident and less anxious in the long term. Less stress means less frowning, less frowning means fewer worry lines and wrinkles!
Mindfulness can help with sleeping difficulties
It’s not called ‘beauty sleep’ for nothing. One bad night’s sleep you can handle. For any of you who are a long term insomniacs, it can have a devastating effect on your state of mind. It can also affect your work performance, your general enjoyment of life, and last, but certainly not least, the state of your skin.
Your skin repairs itself while you are asleep. If you are not getting your recommended eight hours, then you are headed for poor skin quality, along with the accompanying dark circles under your eyes. Mindfulness used with meditation and relaxation techniques can help to improve your sleep routine and return the glow to your skin.
Many of us eat in a hurry, without really thinking about what we are eating; especially when we are dashing from one appointment to another. Sitting on the sofa with your dinner on your lap while you watch the TV is not good either. Again you are not paying attention to what you are putting into your body. The outcome of this treatment of food is eventual weight gain as we tend to consume way more food than is necessary.
To eat mindfully and avoid the excess pounds and double chins, sit at the table with no distractions from electronic devices. Pay attention to each mouthful of food, chew slowly, put down your knife and fork while you chew, and stop eating before you become over full. Try it! You’ll be amazed at how your food consumption decreases without real effort. This will help you to shed those excess pounds and regain that taut facial skin once again.
Mindfulness, as a technique, has been shown by many medical studies to have definable positive effects on the wellbeing of its practitioners. We would highly recommend that you check it out for yourselves.
The ultimate gift for the one you love!
